Ingredient Transparency
Old ways. New skin. Thoughtfully chosen, fully disclosed.
At Meadowlark Made, we believe skincare should be something you understand — no fillers, no mystery ingredients, and no greenwashing. Every product begins right here on our small Iowa farm, where old-world methods meet intentional formulation.
we follow slow, ancestral processes that honor the land, our animals, and the generations of women before us. What they practiced through experience and tradition, modern science now confirms: whole, thoughtfully chosen ingredients truly work.
Our products are handcrafted in small batches using pasture-raised pork tallow from our own family farm, prairie herbs grown or foraged seasonally, and oils and butters selected for nourishment and compatibility with human skin. Skincare should feel simple, nourishing, and trustworthy — and that starts with ingredients you recognize and understand.
From Pasture to Jar,
What We Use With Purpose
Every ingredient in our formulas earns its place. We choose materials that have stood the test of time, work in harmony with the skin, and align with our whole-ingredient philosophy.
Pasture-Raised Pork Tallow
Tallow is the foundation of our skincare. Pork tallow’s fatty acid structure mirrors that of our own skin, allowing it to absorb easily and deeply nourish. Rich in vitamins A, D, E & K — incredibly high in sunshine-derived vitamin D — it helps soothe dryness, restore elasticity, and protect the skin barrier naturally. Learn about the benefits this ancestral fat offers for your skin, plus the difference between beef and pork tallow.
Our heritage Kunekune pigs are pasture-raised on our family farm with respect and care, and we slow-render their nutrient-rich fat in small batches to preserve goodness and performance.
Found in body butters, herbal salves, soaps, lip care, and facial balms.
Farm-Grown & Wild-Foraged Botanicals
Each season we grow or ethically gather prairie herbs like yarrow, chickweed, plantain, goldenrod, and dandelion — chosen for their calming, restorative, and protective properties. Every infusion is done by hand in small batches, allowing each herb to release its full color, scent, and benefit into the oils we use.
Prairie plants are resilient by nature. Their roots run deep, drawing up minerals that help calm inflammation, support healing, and bring balance to stressed skin. These infusions are what give our balms their golden hue — and their quiet strength.
Found in herbal salves, facial balms, and seasonal blends.
Raw Local Beeswax
We use raw beeswax sourced from small Iowa apiaries — minimally filtered to keep its natural propolis content intact. It creates a soft, breathable barrier that shields skin from wind, cold, and environmental stress without clogging pores.
Raw beeswax locks in hydration, supports natural healing, and lends a soft, honeyed scent. The light trace of propolis offers natural antimicrobial support, helping protect and comfort skin exposed to the elements.
Found in body butters, herbal salves, lip care, and facial balms.
Cold-Pressed Oils & Butters
We choose cold-pressed, unrefined oils like jojoba, argan, sweet almond, and meadowfoam for their skin-compatibility and nutrient retention. Each oil is carefully balanced with our tallow and botanicals to create products that glide beautifully and absorb completely.
Because these oils are unrefined, they retain their natural antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids — feeding the skin without heaviness. Together, they support hydration, barrier strength, and a radiant, healthy glow.
Found in salves, body butters, facial balms and serums, soaps, and lip care.
