VETERAN-OWNED + FAMILY-RUN

Steve & Heather Scar

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart and soul, as working for the Lord, and not for men.” — Colossians 3:23

Steve Scar, after serving 20 years in the Air Force went back to his roots as a farmer and owner of Meadowlark Farm in Iowa

STEVE SCAR

20 years in the Air Force. Then, the farm.

Steve grew up on a rural farm south of Earlham, Iowa raising Spotted Poland China hogs with his dad. After serving 20 years in the Air Force’s Search and Rescue Division + five official saves and numerous assists + he retired and returned to his roots. The taste of Kunekune pork brought back memories of his childhood, and we knew it was time to start raising these exceptional pigs on our own land. Steve is also proud to be part of the Homegrown by Heroes Association.

HEATHER SCAR

Kindergarten teacher. Farm steward. Maker.

Heather grew up on a small farm south of Stuart, Iowa. Her grandfather, Leo Marckmann, always dreamed of passing the family’s farm down the line. Today she and Steve are carrying the tradition forward—raising six kids here, now passing those same values on to grandchildren.

Heather also co-founded Meadowlark Made with her daughter Sydney, slow-rendering tallow and handcrafting every batch of skincare from the same farm she grew up loving.

Built on What Came Before

A look at how our family’s past reflects how we farm today.

This land has been part of our family for generations. In this short video, we share how that legacy continues through the way we care for our animals and steward what they provide.

“We believe farming is a form of stewardship — of land, animals, and legacy. We don’t cut corners. We know every pig by name. We check pens by flashlight before bed. We want you to know your farmer. And we’re honored to be yours.”
