Nose to Tail: Honoring the Whole Animal with Faith, Stewardship & Purpose

Before we became apothecarists, we were farmers. And we still are.

Raising Kunekune pigs on pasture is where it all began — and it’s still the heart of what we do. These pigs are slow-growing, gentle, and well-suited to a life outdoors. We walk with them daily, move them through fresh pasture, and ensure they’re raised ethically, with care and respect. They’re part of the rhythm of our land and our life.

As a family of faith, we believe all of creation is entrusted to us by a loving Creator — and we take that responsibility seriously. That’s why we’re committed to farming practices that prioritize animal welfare, land stewardship, and honest, good food.

But our care doesn’t end in the field.

What Nose-to-Tail Means to Us

When the time comes for harvest, it’s never easy. There’s always a moment of stillness, a prayer, a quiet sense of loss. God has given us these animals to steward — and we do not take that lightly.

So we honor them the best way we know how: by using the whole animal.

This is the heart of the nose-to-tail philosophy — valuing every part of the animal, reducing waste, and reconnecting us with the way things used to be done. In traditional cultures, this wasn’t radical — it was just common sense and respect.

On our farm, this looks like:

  • Cuts of meat going to families, chefs, and our own table

  • Bones and organs used for stocks and nutrient-rich food

  • Hides and offal repurposed when possible

  • And yes — fat, slow-rendered and turned into deeply nourishing, natural apothecary products

From Pasture to Apothecary

One way we live out this commitment is by using the traditional dry rendering method to transform pork fat into rich, skin-loving tallow.

We render slowly, by hand — no water, no chemicals, no rush. The result is a pure, golden fat that becomes the base for our herb-infused balms, salves, and moisturizers. It’s another way to honor the gift of the animal, while offering something that truly heals and nourishes.

More Than Skincare

Our nose-to-tail approach isn’t just about apothecary products. It’s about a whole-farm philosophy that values stewardship, sustainability, and sacred respect for the lives we raise.

Whether it’s food for your table or nourishment for your skin, everything we make begins in the pasture — and is guided by the belief that every part of the animal matters.

This is our way of saying thank you:
To the animal.
To the land.
And most of all, to the Giver of Life.
